Grandparents/Special Persons Day is always a little hectic. It's also usually quite wonderful to see the children connect with the older generation. We were working on geometry, translating letters into Spanish and writing poetry today and it was lovely to watch the students share these activities with their visitors. I would have liked more time with our guests, to hear their stories and ask them what they think of our school and the way we teach.
We thank Amy and Rachel for putting together a music and drama presentation which was enthusiastically enjoyed by our guests. The cookies we made the week before we a big hit as well. A huge thank you goes out to Kimberly for her help if making the gym look so splendid.
You might be hearing about the ice rink saga which is rapidly becoming an obsession of unhealthy proportions for me. I might even have to concede that Michelle was right in her assertion that I should just get the fire brigade out here to fill the thing with water. Drat and double drat! Anyway, a big thank you to Kim, Tonya and Dan for their help on Monday night putting the frame together.
It would be great to get the rink up and running by Friday because I've no doubt the high schoolers would love to play on it. Yes, our friend Troy Cohrs is bringing his class of seniors out to spend the day with us. This has become an annual event and one the children thoroughly enjoy. This will be the third edition of The 180 (we write and publish the whole thing in three hours) Mega-zine. Tomorrow, we'll be brainstorming what we want to go in it with the Elmquoias. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a Tips for Life page which has become a firm favorite for Troy and myself. Michelle and I are also plotting a way to include some of our learning about earth science from the previous day's trip in the megazine.

O.K. Today when I was away (Hal was sick) Simon had crews of kids going out every 15 minutes to shovel off a new area for an ice rink (apparently with advice from the city engineer). Does anyone know if that's against our child labor policy?
