A Trip Down Mercado Memory Lane

Mercado is galloping along, and expectations are UP!

The class is getting very tense and hope they have enough to sell, Sell, SELL!

Last year, there was a problem in the taco stand. 

They didn't have enough supplies to serve "Da People". 

Pretty soon, they ended up crumpling the hard taco shells and serving it with salsa. 

Chips n' Salsa. Hey, thats not SO bad.

Also, EP remembers her shop and tells me the story:

"I was working with the books," she said, "We had library cards and everything! I thought we'd be a hit! But, we didn't get as much people as we hoped" 

She told me that a fair amount of people bought books, just not the hundred thousand she wanted. 

Some of you might remember the CP group. 

That's right! Ceramic Pig! Last year, in Mercado, CH and BA  worked together to make the Mercado Mix! 

The first song on the CD was: "La Coocaracha" 

Some Elms find it embarrassing, VERY embarrassing. 

"I felt good when I was singing. But when it came out... Aye ca-rumba!" an Elm told me. 

"I was playing in the background. You know, part of the grand music glue to put it all together... I didn't want my parents hear me mess up. They did. They Laughed and they patted my back until it pretty much fell off!" said another. 

Hair was another thing. The hair group had died/ colored hair and styled it for people. 

Fun was in the air alright! (and some hair too).

October 29th football

Todays football game was a great game. The score 35-28. One of the good plays was: G.L. bombed it to B.A. in the end zone. He catches it for a touchdown. Another good play was: B.A. throws it to S.H. He catches it but drops it behind his back. But catches it again. The M.V.P. was G.L. That's all for this football game.

28th Of October Ramble

Our ramble on Tuesday was an interesting one indeed. 

We started by crouching underneath the trees on the way to the CF (Corn Field). 

I was walking by my friend; we were talking about how the field was like the human body. 

The corn stalk pathways were like blood veins, the area in-front of us was the innards and the heart and lungs (and gut). 

But up ahead, where the people were, was the brain. 

Then we described it even better!

People were blood cells and were traveling to the brain (for some of you think that blood in the brain is "wrong", it's actually quite true. The brain is the one organ that uses most of the blood. Little fact I thought you'd enjoy). 

Me and my friend looked at each other at one point; we had noticed something. 

 We were in the buttocks. 

Our pace got faster as we thought about it. 

Once in a while, we'd trip on a cut corn stalk but we'd keep running. 

Finally, we reached the hill. 

We began blurting out ideas that it was like a long pathway to the amazing creator of the "body" we said we were walking in. 

Then our destination was in view. 

The rocks. 

It was still its old sandy self. 

It never changed. 

Most of the 5th graders gathered around what they called "the burial". 

Some 4th graders watched them preform rituals and others stood on the high mounted rocks. 

I was digging in the sand. 

I don't exactly know why, but it seemed appealing to me. 

My friend called it: Mining for oil so we could "Strike it rich".

Then the call came, we had to return to school for getting ready for home. 

I sighed and we walked back. 

All the way, me and my friend were talking about this strange story we were making up.

Funny thing is, I liked spending my time like that. 

It was fun, random and in every way "COOL!". 

So when you ever get time at home, have you're own ramble with you're family and even make a path.

As Editor and Cheif, I Will Make A Speech!

Okay, sense me and my friend, SN, started this blog; I thought it would be nice to throw a party for it. 

I don't exactly what we should do for the party, but I do think it should be BIG! If you have an idea for the party, please send it to us. And the date for the "party" (PARTY is in quotations because I know it wont be THAT big. Probably just some food and music). 

It'll be a while until the party actually starts, but I know that you Elms out there can wait.

Fight or Talk

The Poligourd Position 

You must all know about the terrorists and threats going around.  We say that instead of killing, we sit down and talk, talking it over with other gourds, even if we don't agree.  Free gourds say that war is the only solution to our problems.  Do you really want more wars?  We say we have it bad enough!  Why just let another problem fall through our hands and have it go crazy?  You choose.  (by D.R.)

The Free Gourd Position

Poligourds say we should sit down and have a cup of tea with our enemy!  We say we should strike before it's too late!  Why let our country fall?  We all know that Poligourds don't want to accept the truth!  Fight for your country and we'll fight for you.  (by S.N.)

Gourd Political Weigh In

Warty Gourd Rights by S.H. and B.A.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - Warty gourds have equal rights as non-warty gourds.  They should not receive special treatment.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - Warty gourds get special care and get helped out more than non-warty gourds.  This is to help warty gourds get equal access because they were once discriminated against by the government.

Common Ground - Both parties believe that wart slavery was a sad part of our history.  Warty gourds used to be enslaved years ago.  They also couldn't go to the same schools as non-warty gourds.

Global Warming by S.A. and N. M-H.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - Gourds are responsible for maintaining their own environment.  We shouldn't have to follow rules that others aren't following.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - We need to make laws to help stop global warming.  We should put rules on ourselves, even if others aren't following them.

Common Ground - Both parties believe that global warming is happening and we should stop it by reducing, re-using and re-cycling.  

Terrorism by H.G. and N. K.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - We should fight terrorists and win against them.  We should not negotiate with terrorists, including countries that support terrorism.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - We should sit down with the countries that are leaning towards being terrorists and convince them to not be terrorists.

Common Ground - Both parties believe we should not torture gourds.  Both parties would try diplomacy first but have not ruled out military action

Health Care by G.L. and J.A.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - You should make your own choices for health care.  The government will supply $5000 per family so you can choose your health care.  Competition will lower costs.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - Everyone should have health care.  Insurance companies will have to insure everyone. If you already have insurance, you keep it.  If not, you will be signed up on a government plan.

Common Ground - Both parties believe that everyone should have health care.  They believe in using technology to reduce the costs of health care.

Gourds Without Jobs by I.G. and E.P.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - Gourds should be helped when they're out of a job.  Churches and charities should help them out.  It's not the government's job.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - Gourds should be helped when they are out of a job or have other problems.  It's the government's job to help them.

Common Ground - Both parties believe that job training is important.

Taxes by J.A. and G.S.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - It's not fair for one group of gourds to pay a lot more taxes than other groups.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - Rich gourds should be taxed more than middle class gourds (and poor gourds.)

Common Ground - There is little common ground in this area.

Fertilizer by A.N. and M.R.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - We need fertilizer and it should be from anywhere we can get it in our own country.  We need all the fertilizer so we can get more money, businesses, and jobs.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - We should get our own fertilizer when possible, but not if it harms habitats.  Instead, we should find other places and ways to get fertilizer.

Common Ground - We should reduce the amount of fertilizer we need by looking for alternative sources of energy

Should we Talk or Fight? by D.R. and S.N.

Senator Ovi (Free Gourds) - We should attack our enemies so they don't attack us.

Governor Crecentia (Poligourds) - We should sit down and talk with our enemies and make sure things don't get out of hand.

Common Ground - Both candidates would use force as a last resort.

I'm Encouraging You!

Okay, I just want to say that, to all you Elms there (and other 4th and 5th graders) You need to add a short story to the contest so it will be MORE interesting!

I'm now expanding the contest so MORE of you can join (Please, please, please, please try it!).

I can't stand not being able to read the amazingly great stories of yours!!!

Orange and Black -- the PCN Experience

My review is about PCN (Pumpkin Carving Night). It was fun when I got there -- being greeted by many friends, holding my flash-light in view. 

My friends all asked me what I was going to do first. I smiled and walked on. 

But set aside my affairs, I was looking for a drink. 

Walking alongside of the news-paper (which was covered in "Goop"), I find the table where the gorp and apple cider lay. 

As I slowly pour myself a drink, I remember that PCN is not only in-side. 

I swallow my cider and make my way to the playground. 

I take out my flash light and notice the colors that are surrounding me. 

But there was one place that made me wonder: in a particular spot in the woods, there was a circle of colors. 

I walked toward it to find "Ghost Researchers". 

They welcomed me in and told me what they had discovered. 

"It was huge!" exclaimed a researcher, "But it didn't look very scary... must've been from the pioneer times" 

I looked at the researcher who had said it and tilted my head and raised an eye brow. 

"I saw a ghost" he told me. 

I nodded my head and looked a person that seemed like a true "Leader". 

The "leader" just smiled and looked up. 

"Let's look some more" he said, "We are gonna be able to find some tomorrow night!" he laughed. 

I separated from the group and looked around. 

I turned off my light (I had heard that ghosts dislike lights) and walked toward an area no one was in. 

It made me jump when I saw a light out of nowhere. 

But then, no one was behind me, or in front. 

I looked up to see a woman dressed in a very poofy dress, it made me smile when I saw her waist length hair. 

She seemed to be so light when I saw her. 

She then dissapeared. 

I stood there for a moment. 

I thought about it for a while; maybe she was colonial. 

Yes, I thought, she was colonial. 

I didn't tell anyone else about it. 

I was just happy about what I had found. 

I had seen a colonial ghost!

The Mysterious Sawing Noise

Well, when B.A. and J.A. were in the boys' bathrom and they heard a mysterious sawing noise. They don't now what it is. But it is really weird. We know it is not a bug or something. It sounds like a saw. It was only going for about one minunte or two. That's all we know.  Our teacher rejected our request to do more investigation.

But what do you mean "I sound like a man"?) [Well, your voice was just so deep!] (So?) [Well, thats why you sounded like a man!] (Wait... HEY! I do NOT sound like a man!) [Yeah, you do!] (Hey!) [Ha ha! Your voice cracked!] (grrrrrrrr!!!) [.... I said something wrong didn't I?] (Look I wanna tell you why I'm still your friend... I really.....) *Bzzz! Bloop!! Pop! Moral of story:
