About Ready.Set.GROW
Prairie Creek Community School is expanding. The goal is to create space for 54 - 60 new students, across all grades K-5. As well as new classroom space, multi-use, art and administrative spaces will be expanded or improved.
Currently there are 120 students, and the 11,000 square foot building is "bursting at the seams." As of now all school events, like the annual auction, are held elsewhere because the school cannot accommodate all the families at once.
In 2007, Prairie Creek received 33 applications for its eight available Kindergarten spaces, and the number of applicants is growing. The tuition-free school maintains a maximum class size of 20 students, with a 10-1 student-teacher ratio. The intention is to retain both the small class size and the character of the old schoolhouse. Design ideas are currently being gathered from children, parents, teachers, custodians, administrators and the public. SMSQ Architects is handling the expansion.
